ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management Systems Standard
The ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management Systems Standard helps organisations to integrate energy management into their business structures so that they save energy, save costs and improve energy and business performance. Organisations that successfully implement the standard can achieve accredited certification issued by official Certification Bodies.
In common with Energy MAP, the application of the standard provides organisations with a strategic approach underpinned through senior management commitment, that results in continual improvement in energy management while meeting core business objectives. All of the Energy MAP steps will contribute to implementing ISO 50001 in organisations. ISO 50001 also shares common management system principles with the Environmental Management System Standard ISO 14001 and will support a number of its requirements.
The standard can be applied to any type of business or organisation. A number of Ireland’s most-intensive and high energy users have already achieved certification. They are Diageo Ireland Ltd. (St. James Gate), Glanbia Ingredients Ltd. (Ballyragget), H.J Heinz Ireland Ltd. (Dundalk), Pfizer Ireland Ltd. (Little Island) and Pfizer Ireland Ltd. (Loughbeg), Uniiversity College Cork and University College Galway.
