Step 4: Get works done

Once you have received your grant offer works can commence. Grant applications made after works have started are not eligible and will be cancelled by SEAI.

Please note the following:

Grant offer period:

The grant remains open for a period of 6 months from date of the grant offer. The date your grant offer is due to expire is noted in your offer letter which is enclosed with your grant forms.

The homeowner must ensure that the following can be completed before the grant expiry date:

  • Works completed by a registered SEAI contractor to SEAI standards
  • BER completed and published after all other grant works are finished
  • Paperwork completed by the contractor, assessor and homeowner
  • Paperwork returned to SEAI for processing

Extensions to grant offer:

Extensions to grant offer periods cannot be given. Grant works done outside of the grant offer period (either before or after) are not eligible for payment and will be cancelled by SEAI.

Contract for works:

SEAI recommends that homeowners and contractors have a contract in place before works commence. Please click here for an example of such a contract.

Changing Contractors:

A homeowner may use a different contractor from that indicated in their original application. However, the new contractor should be identified when requesting grant payment and it is the homeowner's responsibility to verify that the new contractor is registered with SEAI for the measure at time of undertaking the works.
