Small- and Micro- Scale Generation Pilot Field Trials

The quota of sites has been met and the call for proposals is now closed.

Overview of the Pilot

The Small- and Micro- Scale Generation Pilot Field Trial was launched following an announcement by the Minister for Communications Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan on 26th February, 2009.

The pilot trial is designed to provide field data on the performance of generators and factors affecting performance and reliability. As such, there are a limited number (c. 50) of installations included in the pilot and sufficient applications have been received to fill the types of installations sought as defined in the Call for Proposals.

Small- and Micro- Scale Generation Programme

The key objectives of SEAI’s Small- and Micro- Scale Generation Programme are to assess technical, financial and regulatory issues surrounding the deployment of small and micro generation technologies in Ireland.

The programme includes the definition of quality standards for products and installers, the pilot trial of monitored installations, and a detailed review of commercial arrangements and potential supports for small scale and micro-generation. This work is ongoing and lists for information on products and installers are being compiled.

The installation, operation and performance of each pilot technology will be monitored to provide data and information to inform the development of quality standards, consumer information and good practice guidelines.
