About Renewable Heating
Why Heat from Renewable Sources?
Renewable sources of energy can provide heat for space, water or process heating using a number of technologies and sources including bioenergy, solar thermal and heat pumps. Using renewable sources to provide heat can reduce consumption of energy from fossil sources with consequent reductions in polluting emissions, energy bills, and need to import fossil fuels.
EU states have ambitious targets for deployment of renewable heat technologies, supported by strong programmes of government action. In the Government White Paper ‘Delivering a Sustainable Energy Future for Ireland’, published in March 2007, a target of 5% heat from Renewable Energy was set for 2010.
The grants will be provided to those who invest in renewable energy based heating systems under the following categories:
Solar heating - for space heating and/or hot water
Heat pumps - horizontal collector, vertical collector, well water or air source
Wood Chip or Pellet boilers
