Grant Support
Under the ReHeat Programme, support of up to 30% of eligible costs is available for Capital Investment projects and support of up to 40% of eligible costs is available for Feasiblity Study projects. For full details please see the Renewable Heat Deployment Programme Application Guide.

Financial support will be provided to assist new renewable energy based heating systems in the following categories:
- Wood Chip or Pellet Boilers
- Solar Hot Water Heating Systems
- Heat Pumps
- Horizontal ground collector
- Vertical ground collector
- Water (well) to water
- Air source
NOTE:
Ground source, air to water, and ground water to water are eligible for funding under the programme. Cooling only heat pumps are not eligible under the programme.
The following types of heat pump systems are not eligible for funding under the programme:
- comfort air conditioner (factory-made units intended to produce cooled air for air conditioning);
- heat recovery heat pumps using waste heat from other processes as a heat source;
- heat pumps producing sanitary hot water only.
The use of refrigerant with a low level of Global Warming Potential and no Ozone Depleting Potential are favoured. HCFC (e.g. R22) cannot be used in new equipment since 2001.
Large Installations
Biomass boilers or heat pumps larger than 1,000 kW and solar installations larger than 500 m2 will be considered as part of the programme however, SEAI must be contacted prior to the submission of an application for plants in these particular categories.
The SEAI ReHeat Deployment Programme provides capital investment support as follows:
- 30% towards the eligible cost of installing automatic boilers designed to consume wood chips and/or wood pellets, solar thermal and heat pumps up to maximum qualifying cost profiles as listed below.
- Up to 40% or a €5,000 per technology (whichever is the lesser) for ReHeat feasibility studies, on a limited basis. The total amount of support is capped at €300,000 for all such studies.
Eligible costs
The following costs are eligible for support under this programme:
Investment grants – main plant, storage, pipework, instrumentation and control and installation. (More detailed definitions for the individual technologies are given in the Application Guide).
Feasibility studies – additional external costs which must be incurred by the project applicant in carrying out the feasibility study.
Eligibility criteria
There are eligibility criteria with which an application for an investment grant must comply, including:
- The applicant must have had a feasibility study or design study done to determine the appropriate size and type of heating system.
- Technical criteria including standards for each technology as listed in the Application Guide.
- The application form must be accompanied by a current Tax Clearance Certificate for the applicant.
Full details, including terms and conditions of the scheme, are available in the ReHeat Deployment Programme Application Guide and Application Forms available to download here.
For maximum qualifying cost profiles see the application guide.
