Sustainable Energy Ireland Reveals Firms Shortlisted for 2008 Sustainable Energy Awards
Winners to be announced on the 20th November
Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) has today revealed the 44 companies it has shortlisted across seven categories in the 2008 Sustainable Energy Awards. The Awards, which are presented by SEI and sponsored by ESB Customer Supply, recognise and reward organisations which demonstrate excellence in energy management on the island of Ireland. The winning companies of the 18 awards for 2008 will be announced at an awards ceremony next Thursday, 20th November.
This year’s finalists for the prestigious Energy Manager of the Year award include Tesco Ireland, Radisson Hotel SAS Hotel, Cork, Lee Strand Cooperative Creamery and Intel Ireland. Organisations shortlisted for the ‘Energy Efficiency Project for a Large User’ are Diageo Ireland, Bausch & Lomb, Kerry Ingredients, Charleville, Intel Ireland and Covidien, Mulhuddart. Other finalists include Crown Paints, Vodafone, Roganstown House Hotel and RPS Group.
A greater number of finalists this year, over 40%, are small or medium sized businesses. Brian Motherway, Head of Industry, SEI said; “Each year we see a more diverse group of organisations entering the Awards and with this expansion comes wider experience and improved standards of innovation and best practice in energy efficiency and renewable energy. We are particularly pleased with the interest and enthusiasm demonstrated by SMEs this year in addressing the issue of sustainable energy. The learning is that there are significant achievements to be made by businesses around the country, regardless of size and scale. The Sustainable Energy Awards have an important part to play in demonstrating this and providing tangible evidence to businesses of what they also can do to reduce the burden of rising energy costs, as well as helping the environment.”
Last year SEI’s business programmes engaged almost 1,000 Irish businesses of varying sizes and from varying sectors, all striving to reduce energy costs and in so doing enhance their competitiveness and the growth prospects of the economy. SEI provides a range of advice, information and services to companies who are interested in and committed to reducing their energy use.
Among last years winners were the Lodge & Spa at Inchydoney Island, Diageo and Pfizer Ireland Pharmaceuticals.
