Ratoath GAA Club

Co. Meath

Staff:                    1 full time and 8 part-time, 15 people on the committee

Overview:

The GAA Club in Co. Meath does not only play host to their local GAA team and up to nine matches a week, but also to bingo, bridge, aerobics, academic classes, dance classes, art classes, and even guitar classes – all this in only one function room! The whole Ratoath community utilises their local GAA Club, and due to this they have found that the cost of their energy bills are extremely high.

With only one full time staff member, the bar manager, it was certainly a challenge for this GAA club to become more energy efficient. Not only did their staff need to make changes in the energy space but they also needed to encourage all members to take up the power of one ethos.

The staff made sure no lights were left on unnecessarily when rooms were not occupied and they made sure lights were not switched on while it was still bright out. By turning off the radiators in the hallways and storage areas they were able to make additional savings. They began zoning different parts of the building by only heating spaces which were being used and by making sure all internal doors were kept closed to reduce heat loss.
