Co. Louth Residents: Four - Julie, Gareth, Ryan and baby Alice House: Detached, built in 2005; cavity wall construction Overview: The Davies' energy needs changed with the arrival of the new baby, such as greater usage of rooms not currently used often, higher temperature needs, less variation in temperature needs throughout the house, greater and more unpredictable hot water needs, additional appliances/electrical equipment and increased number of visitors thereby different ventilation demands. The Davies have a modern 3-year-old heating system with two thermal zones, a digital programmable timer and thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) and a high efficiency 24kW gas boiler. The system was meeting the temperature needs around the house well where, if it felt cold Julie would hit the boost button on the programmable timer. The Davies family tried to widen their heating habit beyond the time clock and reassess just how much heat they need to be comfortable throughout the whole house. The objective was to achieve a balance between comfort needs and heat consumption. The specific tips for doing this was to experiment and mix’n’match the requirements. |
