Overview:

The topic of energy efficiency and its role in global warming is certainly one of the major issues of our time. Aoife Gleeson of North Tipperary, 32, has recognised this and has been studying up on the issue for some time now. Lacking a central heating system, keeping their old terrace house comfortable has been difficult for Aoife and Lily.

The Gleesons rose to the challenge immediately, applying the simple tips of closing the curtains and internal doors to keep the heat in the rooms being occupied, and by turning off the storage heater in the hallway seeing as the space was not being used. They also started experimenting with the heater in Lilly’s room by turning it off after she had gone to bed rather than having it on all night.

The Gleesons also found that their overall awareness in relation to their energy use has increased dramatically and that the simple tips they were given allowed them to have far greater control over the way they use the house than they would otherwise have been used to.
