The Meehan family

Co. Donegal

Residents:                        Six, two parents and four sons
House:                              Detached, built in 2004; cavity wall construction

Overview:

Neil and Mary were keen to get started on the Power of One Street Challenge to learn about how to save money and to teach their sons how to act in regards to energy efficiency.

The Meehan's took active steps to monitor temperature throughout their house and practice zoning, making use of doors to main living areas to conserve heat. There are limited curtains particularly on large areas of glazing to the rear of the house. They also made use of efficiency settings on washing machines. The Meehan's were keenly aware of temperature levels throughout their home and practiced use of internal doors effectively to manage heat in the main living room.
