Bioenergy Supply Curves for Ireland 2010 - 2030

Bioenergy Supply Curves for Ireland 2010 - 2030

Date: January 2013

Summary: This report focuses on important factors that influence the supply of bioenergy resources in Ireland, namely the cost of producing domestic resources and possible scenarios for the development of international trade in bioenergy commodities. Supply curves for the raw cost and availability of 13 domestic bioenergy resources are estimated over the period to 2030. Possible future scenarios for the development of international commodity markets are also examined to provide a perspective on possible interaction that trade may have with the development of domestic resources.

Better Energy Homes Impact Report - Billing Analysis

Better Energy Homes Impact Report - Billing Analysis.pdf (size 720 KB)
Date: November 2012
Summary: This paper discusses results from a new study from SEAI researchers who examined changes in energy use by households that had participated in the Better Energy Homes scheme. The research also established that savings in energy bills enabled participants in the Better Energy Homes scheme to have a greater degree of comfort at a more affordable cost; a finding that backs up previous analysis undertaken by SEAI.

Impact of Wind Generation on Wholesale Electricity Prices in 2011

Impact of Wind Generation on Wholesale Electricity Costs in 2011.pdf (size 331.2 KB)
Date: February 2011
Summary: A new study on the Irish electricity system establishes that the growing levels of wind generation on the Irish electricity network are not adding to the wholesale price of electricity.

The report by grid operator EirGrid and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, uses detailed modelling tools to look at the wholesale prices in the Irish electricity system in 2011, which has a total annual value of almost €2 billion. The analysis shows that wind generation lowers wholesale prices by over €70 million, which almost exactly offsets the costs of the Public Service Obligation (PSO) levy and other costs associated with the generation of wind energy. The study demonstrates that wind energy is not contributing to higher wholesale electricity prices on the Irish electricity system.

Economic Analysis of Residential and Small-Business Energy Efficiency Improvements

Economic Analysis of Residential and Small-Business Energy Efficiency Improvements.pdf (size 1.9 MB)
Date: September 2011
Summary: This report presents an economic evaluation of energy efficiency improvements made in the residential and small-business sectors via SEAI's Home Energy Saving (HES) scheme and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Programme. The results are based on best available data, including that collected by SEAI during programme delivery. The results illustrate the substantial savings available in the residential and business sectors through deployment of sustainable energy technologies and strategic energy management.
