Summary: Security of Supply is the third SEAI/EPSSU report on this theme. The report aggregates and organises a wide range of indicators or metrics into one focused document. It is designed to provide a context for informed action and decision-making in the area of energy SOS.
New analysis is also contained in the form of three pieces of cutting-edge research. Specifically these are; an examination of the value of lost load, incorporating risk into power sector investment analysis and a recalculation (with newer data) of the supply/demand index of SOS. This analytical work is intended to better underpin our understanding of Ireland’s SOS.

Summary: This is the third SEAI/EPSSU report on industry energy use in Ireland . The initial report, published in October 2003 was the first publication to examine the profile of energy consumption, associated CO2 emissions and costs across the entire Irish industrial sector. That analysis was based on anonymised source data from the CSO Census of Industrial Production (CIP) for 1998.  A subsequent update, published in October 2004, examined 2001 data.
This report examines the most recent CIP data for 2004.

Summary:Energy in Ireland 1990 -2005, now in its 5th edition, draws on a revised and improved data set covering the period 1990 -2005 which was
produced during 2006. The report shows that in 2005 there was a degree of re-coupling of energy and energy-related CO2 emission with energy usegrowing by 3% and emissions by 3.2%.  On the plus side, 2005 saw renewable energy in total growing by 26%, well above primary energy growth, withwind energy growing by 70%.

Summary: Security of Supply in Ireland 2006 is the second annual report on this theme from SEAI. Since SEAI’s initial security of supply publication there has been considerable attention paid to the security of supply aspects of energy policy worldwide. This reports updates and refines the metrics used to consider security of supply in Ireland . It also presents new analysis in three areas; the development of a supply/demand index, use of mean variance portfolio analysis for the electricity sector and a high oil price energy forecast scenario.

Summary: The transport sector in Ireland is a significant fuel consumer, accounting for 33% (5,089 ktoe1) of Ireland’s primary energy demand in 20052. The sector was responsible for 33% (15,273 kt3 CO2) of Ireland’s energy related CO2 emissions, higher than any of the other sectors, namely industry, residential and services sectors.

A survey for the year 2004 is currently underway and this data will be incorporated in a further iteration of this update, which will be published in Summer 2005.
