Sustainable Energy Communities

Welcome to the Sustainable Energy Communities Network

Here you will find information on how to develop a Sustainable Energy Community with guidance on available resources and financial assistance to optimise your community energy use and supply.

A Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) is a community committed to identifying their energy use, plan to make savings and are willing to take action and review the impacts. There is a wide variety of SEC models ranging from a small neighbourhood of homes coming together to upgrade their homes to a county wide energy community.

To support Sustainable Energy Communities, SEAI established the SEC Network programme to stimulate a national movement towards sustainable energy practice through demonstration in exemplar communities.

By joining the SEC Network you will get access to the following:

  • Funding opportunities and grants
  • Technology developments
  • Invitations to training courses
  • Project demonstration days
  • Workshops and seminars
  • Best practice case studies
  • Networking opportunities

SEAI will launch a new Call for Applications from interested communities in the coming weeks. If you are interested in finding out more, please send an email to and you will be included in updates on the programme.
