Student Notes
We want to help you with your study for the Leaving Certificate Physics course, both at Ordinary and Higher levels. What do you think is the best way of getting high grades in your exams? The key to success is effective revision. Just follow the four steps and you will have some of the energy related Physics course topics revised.
What do you need?
Time, concentration, pen and paper.
[When revising, always have a pen and paper at hand – to make summary notes and do problems. There is no point just reading through a chapter in your textbook or just reading through the material on this site unless you get your brain working!]
Let us take you through the four steps:
This is a checklist of important course points that you should know. If you feel you need to revise any of these areas, use the “Learn it” material in step 2.
These notes explain what you need to know for each topic. They include sample problems with worked solutions.
Make a good effort at solving any questions asked – don’t rush on to the answer. There are easy ones at the start, and then they get harder. Most of the questions are from past Leaving Certificate papers, so it is really worth your while spending some time on them – before you look at the solution.
If there are questions that you can't solve, you should review the sample problems and solutions in step 2.
Just print off these notes and keep them in a revision folder. Don't ignore them – go back and review them once a month.
It would be excellent if you were to make up your own summary notes - this is very worthwhile particularly when you go to revise other topics on the course.
After completing these steps you will have achieved three main things:
1. You will have effectively learned and revised some of the energy related course topics.
2. You will have learned an effective method of revision.
3. You will have learned about some of the issues involved in developing sustainable energy in Ireland.
So we wish you well and hope that you find this material useful.
