The Green Mile Project
The Green Mile project was awarded the senior overall winner of the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards 2009. The project was started in 2007 by a group of Transition Year students from C.B.S. Secondary School, Charleville, Co.Cork who wanted to reduce their carbon footprint. They decided to reduce the amount of traffic coming into the school by encouraging students to walk, cycle or carpool.

During this week residents of Charleville were encouraged to drive less and the group observed a measurable reduction in traffic volumes in the town. They had a publicity campaign which included newspaper, radio interview and information at school. The Green Mile is an ongoing initiative.so expect to see more from the group in the future
