News update: ACA scheme expanded by a further 3 categories
In the recent budget it was announced that the Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA) scheme was to be expanded by a further three equipment categories. These are:
- Refrigeration and cooling systems
- Electro-mechanical systems
- Catering and hospitality equipment
This new expansion of the ACA will bring the total number of equipment categories up to ten and will enable the ACA to provide incentives to companies across the majority of energy using equipment in virtually all industry sectors.
While the announcement of this expansion was recently announce it will be a number of months before suppliers of eligible equipment can submit products to the ACA for consideration. Draft eligibility criteria for the various technologies covered by these new equipment categories will be developed in the early part of 2010. A public consultation on the draft documents will be held before the final criteria are published in one of the ACA’s quarterly list updates by way of Statutory Instrument. The estimated timelines for complete introduction of the new categories to the ACA are therefore as follows:
- Jan – Mar 2010: Development of new technology criteria
- Mar – Apr 2010: Public consultation on draft criteria
- Apr – Jun 2010: Product submissions to the new technologies accepted
Anyone interested in being kept up to date on the progress of the new ACA categories should submit their contact details through the ACA “Contact us” form. All general queries in relation to the ACA can also be submitted through this form.
Extract from 2010 Budget speech:
“.. the scheme of accelerated capital allowances for energy efficient equipment is being enhanced to include refrigeration and cooling systems, electro-mechanical systems and catering and hospitality equipment. This measure will improve energy efficiency while also helping companies under strong competitive pressure in sectors such as food and drink, retailing and distribution.”
