Quick wins for HVAC

HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning and refers to the equipment, distribution network and terminals used to provide fresh filtered air, heating, cooling and humidity control in a building. Effective use and control will minimise the associated electricity costs.

Reduce HVAC system operation when building or space is unoccupied to reduce electrical, heating and cooling requirements
Turn off heat producing equipment when not required, e.g. lights, computers, office equipment
During the hot summer months open windows at night so the building can be naturally ventilated
Make sure that your heating and cooling system cannot be switched on at the same time in the same area by linking the controls for each system
Increasing cooling temperature by 1degC from 23degC to 24degC can save up to about 10% on running costs
Adjust settings for areas that are too hot or too cold
Insulate air ducts, chilled water, hot water, steam pipes and areas requiring high or low temperatures
