Every public body is legally obliged to 'publish an annual statement describing the actions it is taking, or has taken, to improve its energy efficiency and an assessment of the energy savings arising from those actions' (Regulation 5(5), SI 426 of 2014). The format of the statement is specified by SEAI.
The following are the minimum requirements for a public body Annual Energy Statement:
The energy consumption and energy saving figures specified in items 3, 4, 8 and 9 must be reported in kWh, MWh or GWh of primary energy. All of the data specified above is available from the M&R system.
The above are minimum requirements. Public bodies are free to include other data or commentary that is relevant to their energy performance for the year.
SEAI automatically generates and publishes all of the data required for an Annual Energy Statement for every public body that submits a complete M&R report. The data is published annually in a user-friendly format and is based on data reported by each public body through the M&R system.
The online Annual Energy Statement published by SEAI for each public body also calculates the energy-related CO2 emissions and converts these to an equivalent 'number of trees'. The conversion assumption is that six mature trees will sequester one tonne of CO2 over their lifetime.Access Public Bodies Energy Data
Public bodies have saved over €1 billion on energy spend and 3.6 million tonnes of avoided CO2 emissions since 2009. The public sector is on target to be 33% more efficient by 2020.View latest results
