Project Description
IoTAS is an R&D project developing a new generation of low cost, high speed power system smart metering and control. Combining fast, accurate, time synchronized power measurements with local control relays with a cloud-based management system, IoTAS provides unprecedented power monitoring and demand control capabilities. EirGrid has expressed the need for a low-cost control and monitoring solution to support integration of small scale renewables, whilst maintaining grid stability. The purpose of this project is to demonstrate this capability for a 5kW PV/Battery grid tied system, to be integrated with EirGrid's use of the pre-production IoTAS hardware and Virtual RTU software. The proposed RD&D program will design and install a combined PV and battery system with grid connection. IoTAS and IoTAS Pulse Lite units will be integrated and connected to a network based server system, which will collect data and coordinate commands from EirGrid. This will serve as a demonstration of how regional clusters of micro-generators can be controlled as a single unit, simplifying grid power and frequency control.
