Energy Efficiency Working Groups

Working Groups provide a hands-on means to share and exchange knowledge and experience on key energy topics, and work to develop best practice guidance.

The groups harness the collective knowledge base of public sector practitioners, and works with other government stakeholders. This experience is made available through best practice guidance, case studies and other routes, and offers a real resource to help organisations identify opportunities and savings more rapidly and reduce barriers to implementation. In effect, they offer a short cut to success.

Working groups are active in the following areas:

• ICT Working Group
• Public Lighting Working Group
• Water Services Working Group

Water Services alone use approximately 40% - 60% of the average energy consumption in Local Authorities; and Public Lighting represents a further 30% - 40%.

Other working groups planned:

• Financing retrofit and energy management.
• Energy Efficient Design
• Transport.

Participants in Working Groups include:

• Practitioners from Public Sector organisations
• National and international experts on lighting, pumping and sewage treatment technology.
• Key stakeholders in public lighting and water services including DoEHLG, ESB, CCMA/OLAM and NRA.

• Identification of achievable savings through expert SEAI analysis.
• Implementation of energy savings projects using modern technologies with financial supports where available.
• Analysis of savings and project deliverables.

• Best practice guides
• Identification of barriers to widespread replication and their respective solutions.
• Identification of training requirements for stakeholders.
