Quick wins for Compressed Air

Quick Wins Lighting Logo

Air compression is often the highest electrical use in many industrial facilities because most of the electricity used to compress air is converted to waste heat. Improving the efficiency of compressed air systems can reduce electricity consumption by 20–50%.

  • Turn off compressed air equipment when not in use
  • Avoid unnecessary compressed air use on drying or cleaning
  • Reduce air pressure to the minimum needed for the job e.g. 2 bar for blowguns
  • Report leaks immediately
  • Keep the air inlet of the compressor in a cool area
  • Report loose belts on compressor drives
  • Report older redundant distribution pipework so it can be blanked off
  • Adjust time switch settings to switch off equipment at lunch-times or at week-ends if it is not going to be used
