Users can now explore price data through interactive visualisations, choose price components and consumption bands, and create customised data downloads.

Energy price dashboards

SEAI has just published a new set of bi-annual energy price dashboards for electricity and gas. These new dashboards draw on data collected as part of Ireland’s reporting obligations under the European Energy Price Regulation (EU 2016/1952), providing a clear and transparent view of how energy prices are evolving.

The dashboards bring together visualisations and detailed commentary on prices across four key categories:

Users can explore trends across different consumer groups and better understand the factors influencing energy prices.

How prices are presented

Prices are presented both as weighted band averages (WBA) and at individual consumption band level, which illustrates the difference in price paid by high consumption customers and low consumption customers.

The WBA takes the prices experienced by consumers from each of the consumption bands, high and low, and weights them against the relative market share of consumption in each band.

To provide further insight, users can view base energy prices with and without VAT and non-recoverable taxes and levies (NRTLs):

  • Base + NRTL + VAT
  • Base + NRTL
  • Base

The “Base” price includes network costs, along with energy and supply costs, while the full “Base + NRTL + VAT” price reflects the final amount paid by consumers, including value added tax.

The dashboards are fully interactive, allowing users to customise their view of the data. Users can select specific time periods, price components, consumption bands, and units, and can also download the underlying data for further analysis.
