Homeowner Ellie wanted to create a cosy cottage vibe for her new home.

Ellie's cottage in Cork that was upgraded

Background

When Ellie got the keys to her cottage in county Cork, she described it as very draughty and cold. It was a D2 BER.

She initially thought she could just get the windows and doors replaced but soon realised "there’s so much more that can be done and so many more grants to avail from".

The One Stop Shop experience

Ellie did her research and decided to go with the One Stop Shop (OSS) route. She chose Insulex One Stop Shop, and they ensured everything ran smoothly after that.

Martin McCarthy, CEO & Owner of Insulex, said: “The ultimate goal is to take an old house and actually just bring it to a warm, comfortable, efficient standard.”

“The minimum requirement is a B2 and if you're taking multiple measures, you're going to end up with a one stop shop, which is highly granted, efficiently managed, and takes all the pain away from the clients. It's all run by the one stop shop provider,” he explained.

Ellie was delighted with this approach and says she had to fill out very little paperwork. She took out a loan for the works and agreed a budget with Insulex before doing so. “They really worked great with that, even staying under budget.”

Works completed:

  • Attic insulation
  • External wall insulation
  • Windows and doors
  • Heat pump

Results

The bungalow has gone from a D2 to A3 BER. Ellie describes it as “incredibly warm. It feels very safe, and it's just much cosier than ever before.”

Her experience with the One Stop Shop was great. They were really accommodating from the beginning. “We went through the vision that I had for the house, which was to upgrade it, but still to keep the cottage vibe going,” she says.

“I'm really happy that I bought it and I'm really happy with all the work that I put into it.”
