Project Description

Enhanced Survivability Assessment of Anaconda Mk1C funding to allow an experimental test campaign to be undertaken at LIR Cork at scale 1:25 to inform progression to WES Stage 3. The Anaconda team participated in Stage 2 of the Wave Energy Scotland (WES) Novel Wave Energy Converter (NWEC) programme, which commenced in June 2017. During Stage 2 the Anaconda team had undertaken experimental campaigns (partly funded by SEAI OCN/00085), a complete concept-engineering design of a full-scale Anaconda device and numerical modelling. These elements have led to a number of important improvements to the Anaconda device with respect to the design of the rubber tube and the power-take-off mechanism. The culmination of Stage 2 is the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) of a ¼ scale device which will then be manufactured and tested as part of NWEC Stage 3.
