Project Description

The purpose of this project proposal is to build and test a prototype “Micro EGG Digester”. The Micro Egg Digester is a micro scale Anaerobic Digester which is designed to be used primarily for digesting cooked and uncooked food waste from households and small food businesses. The digester is designed to minimise the amount of organic waste ( >95%) going of landfill by providing the user with an easy to operate, reliable and environmentally sustainable disposal option for their food waste. A number of important factors have been considered in the design of the Micro EGG Digester; Simple and cheap construction (GRP initially but plastic moulding later); Possibility of transporting large numbers of units at low cost (all parts nesting in each other); Visually appealing to a consumer; Simple to use/operate; Monitor using tablet/smart phone technologies; Reliable operation; This project is the first phase in the design of this new “Micro EGG Digester” and the lessons learned will be brought forward for detailed product design and planning to turn the “Micro EGG Digester” into a consumer product.
