About the Award

A brand new award for 2026

Rewarding building design experts and contractors who go beyond the bounds of best practice to deliver significant carbon reduction in buildings. This can include the areas of design, specification, or build approach such as modern methods of construction in the areas of both new build and retrofit. 

Entrants will demonstrate a considered approach to sustainable energy and/or embodied carbon in all aspects of their business operations. Innovations can also be demonstrated through the incorporation of smart technology in the design and construction and future operation of buildings. 

Projects or operations must be fully completed with all associated works finished, prior to the submission deadline in order to qualify for entry.

Entrants may demonstrate (as appropriate for their area):

  • Sustainability approach of business operations.
  • Promotion of sustainability in their wider sector.
  • Promotion of sustainability to clients and collaborators
  • Operational Energy Performance
  • Other Certification Schemes (BREEAM, LEED, HPI, Passive House, EXEED)
  • Design strategies for passive solutions
  • Description of management process for design, construction, retrofit & operation (as appropriate)
  • Approach to embodied carbon calculation
  • Building Envelope Performance
  • Renewable Technologies 
  • Consideration to other sustainable features (Water Usage, Building Materials, Life Cycle Assessment)
  • Future Proofing Building Critical Success Factors

Application guidelines

  1. Please submit your application online by 5pm, Friday 5th June, 2026.
  2. You are eligible to apply under more than one category. Simply follow the online guidelines and copy and paste your application to a new category and amend your answers as appropriate.
  3. Please ensure all mandatory fields are completed before you hit submit.
  4. Please complete the 'Data' section to the best of your ability.
  5. Once you submit, you can still edit your application up to the deadline date.
  6. Please keep attachments to 5MB or less.
  7. Shortlisted applications will be announced in August.
