EXEED project design and feasibility supports
The feasibility grant supports the design costs to incorporate EXEED-certified energy efficiency into your project.
Energy efficiency included from project design stage
In a major energy project, up to 95% of the lifecycle cost is already set in the design stage. This early stage is the greatest chance to reduce energy and carbon. With EXEED, a standard approach to energy efficient design is incorporated throughout an investment project.
EXEED projects are separated into two stages:
- Design stage and feasibility
- Capital investment and professional services
The grant can support up to 50% towards the design stage of an EXEED-certified energy efficiency project. There is separate funding available to support the later capital investment and implementation stage.
Who can apply
Large businesses aiming to implement a significant energy project, with feasibility already established. It is open to any organisation but primarily aimed at large energy users (typically more than 100,000 KW-hours per year).
Eligible projects save significant energy through a:
- New design project, such as a new building
- Major renovation to existing buildings or assets
- Major upgrade to existing structures
- Repurposing of an existing asset
Exclusions
- Transport emissions if not related to an on-site process
- Fisheries industry
- Non energy-related projects such as R&D
Grants value
You can get up to €3,000,000 in EXEED grant funding for a project (combined design and capital support).
Expenditure types supported during Stage 1 are:
- Energy Efficient Design (EED) Expert costs
- Energy Modelling
- Specialist consultancy services
- Detailed Detail costs
How we calculate the grant
- Calculate eligible costs which is are relevant design stage activities which relate to your energy efficiency and/or decarbonisation project.
- Apply grant percentage to eligible costs based on your design project measures.
Before you apply
This application is for the design & feasibility stage when your still planning your project (stage 1). If you're ready to implement your capital project (stage 2), you should move to the capital grant section.
Please read the EXEED Grant Scheme Guidelines for full information on the application process. Our EXEED webinar playlist can also support you to understand the process.

The application form cannot be submitted until all required supporting documentation is attached. You will need to submit:
- Declaration of Solvency
- Declaration of Financial Resources
- Declaration of SME Qualification - maximum grant of 50% if not provided
- Stage 1 Multiple Buildings Form - if application relates to multiple buildings within one site
The evaluation process typically takes up to 3 weeks at stage 1. Along with documentation, the eligibility assessment includes review of:
- Asset definition
- Review that EXEED process is understood and integrated
- Schedule of overall project
- Clarity, detail and appropriateness of proposed Stage 1 professional fees
- Energy saving potential
- Financial information
If approved, you will receive a Letter of Offer from SEAI. The grant calculation involves:
- Acceptance of relevant design stage pre-investment services works seeking funding, including: EED Expert costs, technical feasibility studies and energy modelling.
