- Government supports are boosting the skilled supply chain needed for Ireland’s retrofit ambitions, unlocking significant economic opportunity
Irish businesses are accelerating investment in sustainable energy to cut costs and strengthen resilience, with more than €75 million in SEAI grant funding approved to support over 4,500 businesses in 2025.
The figures were announced today as the SEAI Energy Show opens at the RDS, Dublin, bringing together over 3,000 sustainable energy suppliers, specifiers and commercial buyers for Ireland’s leading business-to-business energy event.
Running today and tomorrow, 22–23 April, the show spotlights the practical benefits of investing in sustainable energy, from lower operating costs to greater resilience. It also showcases best practice in retrofit and the products, services and expertise currently driving Ireland’s energy transition.
2025 saw record application levels for business grants, with €75 million in new grant funding approved to support over 4,500 businesses with energy audits, commercial solar PV, and retrofits.
Residential retrofit demand also reached record highs in 2025, with 58,600 property upgrades supported, showing the recognition of the broad benefits of energy efficiency upgrades.
Speaking at the SEAI Energy Show, CEO of SEAI, William Walsh said:
“For more than 30 years the Energy Show has grown alongside the very creation of Ireland’s clean energy supply chain as an important meeting point for leading businesses, suppliers and specialists to build new partnerships and share best practices.
Ireland’s sustainable energy transition is a major business opportunity. There is huge demand for scalable solutions for retrofitting and clean energy technologies, growing markets at the heart of Ireland’s resilient and competitive future. SEAI is committed to supporting businesses in seizing this opportunity, strengthening the supply chain and workforce needed to meet Ireland’s climate ambitions.” Mr Walsh added.
Last year alone, SEAI supports underpinned 13,500 jobs across all aspects of the supply chain. Alongside the direct business and residential supports it provides, SEAI also engages with a range of supply chain actors to build the skills capacity needed to unlock the full economic opportunity of the energy transition. Actions include collaboration with SOLAS to introduce heat pump training as a core module within plumbing apprenticeships, working with manufacturers and trade bodies on training pathways for qualified plumbers, and partnering with the Irish Hardware Association to help retail staff advise customers on energy efficiency products.
