IS 399 energy efficient design management
A new Energy Efficient Design Management standard, IS 399, will save businesses millions of euro on investment projects.
A new approach to energy efficiency
The new standard IS 399, developed by SEAI with the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), was launched in late 2014. The standard embeds consideration of energy from the start of new investment projects, minimising energy consumption through their lifecycle.
This is a new approach to energy efficiency and is already making savings for industry. It is relevant to all stakeholders in any sector, organisation, or project.
EED as a management system
The new IS 399 standard establishes Energy Efficient Design (EED) as a management system complimenting ISO9001 and ISO50001. It provides companies with an innovative and sustainable strategy for delivering energy, environmental, quality and competitiveness objectives.
IS 399 and EXEED
IS399 Energy Efficient Design Management is a Management System Standard from which EXEED was derived. This standard can be used at organisational level to provide a strategy to apply across ongoing investments and to continually improve performance.
Two central processes
EXEED is project based certification of an asset where the project has a start, middle and end. Within the standard are two significant processes that are central to both EXEED and IS 399:
- Design for Energy Performance
- Design for Energy Management
