Project Description

The goal of the A-TEAM project is to accelerate the commercialisation of a high-potential cross-flow tidal energy turbine with a capacity of up to 2MW, to provide clean, predictable energy in support of Ireland’s and Europe’s decarbonisation and enterprise development efforts. To deliver this vision, the project consortium brings together a tidal energy developer (ORPC Ireland) at the forefront of the sector globally, supported by expert Irish research teams and testing infrastructure. A-TEAM will assess key practical requirements for the mooring and station keeping of buoyant and floating tidal energy devices, including survivability, reliability, and installation and maintenance. The project team will then take these requirements and apply innovative design methodologies to advance the device concept in line with industry best practice. The performance and robustness of critical mooring and monitoring components will be demonstrated in a high-precision laboratory setting.
