Project Description
EBSTAR aims to transform waste products from food production to valuable products using bacteria in a process called fermentation. We will select bacteria that produce compounds called exopolysaccharides (EPS), that can be used for changing food texture, and use them to produce EPS from various waste products. Waste generated from this process will then be converted to a biodegradable plastic called polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) using other bacteria. The waste from this process will be used to produce methane which can be used as a fuel. This will be operated as a continuous process for ongoing production of all three products.
