Project Description
The primary objectives of this proposal is to assess the economic feasibility, and the environmental and societal impact of implementing gravity battery energy storage (GBES) systems at disused mine sites around Ireland. Dublin City University proposes to review unused mines around Ireland to design and develop a prototype lab-scale system based on the site-specific conditions of the selected candidate mine site. The results and findings of the research will target end-users such as Eirgrid, ESB Networks, Wind Energy Ireland and the Irish energy storage association.
