Project Description
Due to Ireland’s geography and climate, there is enormous potential to harness abundant energy to power homes and businesses from our oceans. Electricity can be generated from the ocean itself through wave and tidal generation, or from the complex environment above the ocean through offshore wind generation. Ocean energy, or ocean power, is most easily described through wave power – as the behaviour of waves on the ocean surface can give detailed information of the energy contained in the body of water, but also the wind behaviour above the surface too. As wave power can be efficiently modelled, our Partnership will develop a wave model capable of predicting wave behaviour anywhere in our oceans, encouraging companies to commit to building these projects in Ireland - to benefit Ireland.
