Project Description
Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) is an emerging renewable energy technology. This industrial research project aims to prepare the offshore demonstration of Ampyx Power prototype AP-3 (150kW) in 2022/2023. It aims to provide insights into the technical, financial, logistical and legal constraints to execute this project. The first objective of the Offshore Airborne Wind Energy demonstrator project is to research the potential for an offshore demonstration of AWE in Ireland, resulting in: (a) Site feasibility reports, based on detailed environmental, geotechnical, met-ocean, marine archaeological and geophysical data; including local community and stakeholder engagement (b) Design, test and (tank test) validation of the offshore platform; (c) An execution plan for the offshore demonstration, including high level contracts for installation, operation and a full permit assessment. The second objective is to provide insights into the market potential for floating airborne wind energy in Ireland, resulting from a detailed analysis of system and operational cost and energy output in local circumstances.
