Summary

Ireland seeks to boost renewable energy through solar PV, but a study of over 375,000 home retrofits finds that installing solar PV does not significantly encourage further energy retrofitting. The results suggest that while solar PV aids renewable adoption, it alone is insufficient to drive the comprehensive energy efficiency improvements necessary for meeting Ireland’s climate goals, highlighting the need for integrated approaches combining renewables with upgrades like insulation and heating systems.
