Feeling the chill? You’re not alone — keeping your home warm and cosy during winter can be challenging, especially with rising energy costs.

A few smart energy upgrades, such as attic and wall insulation, adjusting your heating controls, or replacing an old inefficient boiler, can make a big difference. — and SEAI home grants, available to homeowners nationwide, make it easier and more affordable than ever to upgrade your home.

Imagine a home that stays snug, where you feel in control of your energy use and your budget — that’s what these five smart steps can deliver.

1. Keep the heat where it belongs: insulate your attic

A cosy and comfortable home starts at the top. Up to 30% of your home’s heat escapes through the roof — heat you’ve already paid for! Attic insulation is one of the quickest, most affordable ways to make your home feel cosier.

SEAI offers a grant of up to €1,500 for attic insulation, making this upgrade more affordable than ever.

2. Stop draughts in their tracks: insulate your walls

Once the attic is insulated, the next big culprit of heat loss is your walls. Wall insulation helps lock in warmth, reduce draughts, and keep indoor temperatures steady. Depending on your home and your budget, there are different options to choose from: cavity, external, or internal wall insulation.

SEAI offers a grant of up to €8,000 for wall insulation. You can make a big impact without a big bill.

3. Upgrade to a heat pump for consistent comfort

If your home is well insulated, a heat pump can transform how you heat your home. Heat pumps provide a consistent temperature in the home, providing warmth and comfort all day long.

SEAI offers a grant of up to €6,500 for a heat pump. Or if you are getting multiple energy upgrades and using a registered One Stop Shop to manage the process, you can receive up to €10,500 for your heat pump grant.

4. Take control: install heating controls

Make your existing heating system run more efficiently by installing heating controls. You will then be able to control the temperature in each room and only use heat when you need it. Smart heating controls can help reduce your energy bills by up to 20%.

Even better, SEAI offers a grant of €700 to make this a smart, affordable upgrade.

5. Harness the power of the sun: install solar panels

Solar PV works in Ireland all year round — even on cloudy days. Generate clean electricity to power your home and reduce your electricity bills.

Most homeowners save €200–€300 per year with a typical solar PV system. SEAI offers a grant of up to €1,800 for solar PV
