SEAI’s Single Point of Contact for Renewable Energy Consenting can provide guidance on the consenting process.

Whether you are a small business looking to install rooftop solar PV or a large commercial organisation planning an onshore wind development project, you need to be aware of the licenses and permits required to move forward with your project. Navigating the renewable energy consenting system can feel overwhelming, but SEAI are here to help.

What is Single Point of Contact for Renewable Energy Consenting?

Single Point of Contact (SPC) is a dedicated SEAI service designed to make the renewable energy consenting process clearer, simpler and easier to navigate. Instead of searching across multiple websites and agencies, SPC brings all relevant licensing and permitting information together in one place.

While SPC does not issue licenses or make decisions on applications, it guides you through

  1. The type of consents that may apply to your project
  2. The authorities that are responsible for issuing the consents
  3. The stage of your project lifecycle each consent relates to

SPC have developed a simple license and permit finder tool that can assist you in answering the above questions.

How the license and permit finder tool helps?

The tool asks a few quick questions about your project, such as:

  1. Type of renewable technology (For example, solar, wind, anaerobic digestion, etc.)
  2. Scale of your project
  3. What stage is your project at (For example, design and construction, operation and maintenance, etc.)

Based on your answers, the tool provides a tailored list of licenses and permits that may be relevant to your project. This helps you understand early on, what to consider before investing your resources.

Who can use the license and permit finder tool?

Anyone involved in developing renewable energy projects in Ireland. Small business owners to large scale developers can use the tool to get clarity on the consenting landscape.

Still have questions?

If you have used the tool and still feel unsure, the SPC team is here to help. You can reach out through the Contact Us section on the website. Our team can help clarify and guide you towards the right source of information.
