Vacant home is transformed from BER E to A2

Background

Eric and Laura met on Halloween night in 2014 and moved into their new home over ten years later on Halloween night in 2025. Spooky coincidence, or meant to be? We think the latter!

They spent a number of years saving for their forever home and when they first viewed the house outside Drogheda, they knew it was ‘The One’ the minute they walked in. It was a vacant home and needed a lot of work, but Eric and Laura could see its potential. The home was a BER E and they said that they didn’t realise the extent of renovations it needed in the beginning. "It would have been a cold house; it was built in the 60s. There was some insulation, but not a lot".

The project

Eric and Laura have busy lives with full time jobs and two small children, so choosing a One Stop Shop to manage the project was the best choice for them. A friend recommended Envirobead, a registered One Stop Shop. They managed the entire project from start to finish including all the grant paperwork. 

A home energy assessor carried out a full assessment of the home and established what energy upgrade works need to be carried out. In Eric and Laura’s case they recommended.

• Solar PV

Results

All of these measures brought their home from a BER E to A2!
