SEAI Publishes Statement of Strategy 2026-2030

•    Strategy affirms importance of balancing energy affordability, environmental sustainability, and energy security.
•    SEAI wants to create a common vision for what Ireland’s energy future looks like in all aspects of our daily lives.

SEAI today published a new five-year Statement of Strategy for 2026-2030. The Statement of Strategy sets out a clear and actionable roadmap to meet Ireland’s energy ambitions. It reflects a shared determination to build a better future for Ireland, deliver on climate commitments, strengthen energy security, and support economic and societal wellbeing. The strategy envisages that in five years’ time, hundreds of thousands of homes will be warmer and more comfortable, substantially more of our transport will be electrified, and businesses will be significantly more competitive. With more control and certainty over energy costs, our economy will be on a more secure, sustainable footing.

"Our vision of a climate neutral Ireland, powered by clean energy, where our environment, society and economy thrive requires a huge collaborative effort. This Statement of Strategy provides a framework for the SEAI to continue to further support our citizens, communities, industry, Government and society as a whole to work together to realise our vision. Improving energy efficiency, including through retrofitting and transitioning to renewable energy increases the quality and comfort of the homes we live in, improves energy affordability, reduces our emissions and impact on our climate and environment, increases competitiveness, strengthens our energy security and ultimately improves our well-being and our future.”

“Ireland stands at a pivotal moment in its energy journey. As one of Europe’s most challenging periods unfolds, our national strategy is driven by a firm commitment to climate neutrality, energy security, and economic resilience. Over the coming years, Ireland must navigate the growing complexity of the energy trilemma – balancing energy affordability, sustainability, and security. Our strategic direction must be both bold and resilient. Harnessing technological advancements and delivering infrastructural investment will be critical to achieving our national targets and ensuring Ireland remains at the forefront of the global energy transition. Importantly, the energy transition is a societal transformation, and success will depend on the active participation of individuals, communities, businesses, and institutions.”
Dermot Byrne, Chair SEAI
"By 2030, Ireland will be a much different country than it is now. How we heat and power our homes and businesses will have fundamentally changed, and our country will be much more secure and resilient as a result. It will take a huge effort across multiple areas of society and the economy, but it will be worth it. SEAI will work with all those with a stake in our future – especially those most vulnerable to high energy costs. We’ve chosen six societal outcomes to work towards. They are a more competitive and affordable Ireland, a more energy secure Ireland, a healthier Ireland, a better public service for Ireland, and a more equal and inclusive Irish society. These capture the wide-ranging impact of our work, and include the areas set to benefit most from a more energy-independent future."
