Project Information
Wyeth Nutrition commenced operations in Askeaton in 1974 and now employs over 750 people between staff and contractors. The Askeaton operation supplies infant nutrition products all over the world. Wyeths energy efficiency ideology is very scientific – review energy consumption and energy balances, apply the concept of Energy Efficient Design to optimise the project and perform a detailed Monitoring & Verification study that integrates with ISO 50001 system to ensure that best in class is delivered.

Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland GmbH
Project Information
Bursting onto the Irish grocery market in 2000, Lidl has changed the face of shopping for the better with top quality products made available at the lowest possible price. With over 5,000 colleagues across almost 200 sites, Lidl has become an integral part of the Irish community. The deployment of renewable energy across the portfolio and the free supply of 100% renewable electric vehicle charging to customers, thus supporting the decarbonisation of transport, goes above and beyond the role of a retailer.

Gurteen College
Project Information
Gurteen College is a registered charity founded in 1947, offering a range of recognised Teagasc and other courses to people who intend making a career in either agriculture, equines or related services. In association with Tipperary Energy Agency, Mike Pearson developed a renewable energy programme to reduce the energy usage throughout college grounds. The use of energy on site has been improved with the growing of willow for biomass fuel and the generation of electricity through the wind turbine and PV system which reduce the need for electricity to be imported off the grid.

Project Information
EirGrid Group manages and operates the transmission grid across the island of Ireland. The aim of the DS3 Programme is to meet the challenges of operating the electricity system in a secure manner while achieving Ireland’s 2020 renewable electricity targets. DS3 System Services offers financial incentives for conventional and renewable generation to provide flexible services, enabling an increase in the levels of renewable generation possible on the power system at any given time.

Aut Even Hospital
Project Information
Aut Even Hospital is a seventy-one-bed elective, private hospital with an eighteen-bed day surgery unit located just outside Kilkenny City. The 10 year fully financed energy performance contract between Veolia and Aut Even Hospital is delivering energy savings that outweigh the finance repayments for the Hospital. The innovative funding model made this project feasible for Aut Even Hospital.

Sligo University Hospital
Project Information
Sligo University Hospital (SUH) provides acute general and maternity services to the population of Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan and South Donegal and provides regional services across the North West to a population of 280,000. Since 2012, the hospitals energy programme has delivered significant energy savings. Hospital wide staff engagement and interest in energy reduction through several energy awareness campaigns and monthly energy team meetings, and regular monitoring and targeting will ensure that the energy reductions are maintained in the years ahead.

Project Information
The Aran Islands Community Energy Cooperative with 100 members is open to every resident. It is not-for-profit, has 12 directors made up of every sector of community and all are volunteers. Over half of the houses and buildings on the 3 islands have completed energy upgrades since 2012. Half of the buildings on Inis Oirr have now replaced fossil fuels with heat pumps and photovoltaic panels. Inis Mor is also progressing well in the same direction. There are now 10 electric vehicles on Inis Mor.

The Rediscovery Centre
Project Information
The Rediscovery Centre is the national centre for the circular economy with enterprises using waste and unwanted materials as a resource and raw material for new product design. The Rediscovery Centre is also home to an education department that provides a variety of exciting and interactive workshops for children. The centre demonstrates best practice building design, construction and operation and defines the building and environs as an educational tool to inspire, inform and lead positive behavioural change with respect to resource management and efficiency.

Smart M Power Co (t/a MPOWER)
Project Information
MEGA, in collaboration with South Dublin County Council and industry partners such as MPOWER, developed a Living Lab to research solutions that increase the level of electricity production hosted by communities. It is located in South Dublin County, and is known as the Tallaght Community Energy Living Lab. MPOWER is driving this research forward towards full commercial deployment, first in DIT and Tallaght Living Lab – from there it will be franchised to local communities (regulated by Contract) acting as Smart Cells in an emerging independent Cellular Smart Grid. It involves local Energy and Flexibility Markets operated by the Community System Operator, for each Community Grid. Consumers in Community Grids become prosumers (regulated by contract): consumers who offer a service back to the supply chain (production and/or flexibility).
